Five hundred and fourteen first-year students at the Ort Braude Academic Technical College in Carmiel received on Sunday, January 21, 2007, scholarships in the value of 2.5 million shekels, a contribution from the United Jewish Communities of North America to the Jewish Agency Fund for reinforcing the northern colleges.
Thirty five students amongst the scholarship recipients are new immigrants who received a full tuition scholarship for the year. The scholarships were offered on a comprehensive basis to all students who registered this year to study at Braude College, on condition that the recipients would perform social activity on behalf of the community, with the objective of stimulating student registration to the northern college despite the second Lebanon war.
Braude College recorded a 10% growth this year in the number of those registering for studies at the college. The president of the College, Dr. Shmaryahu Rosner, noted that the high registration figures were obtained thanks to amongst other things the scholarships which were received.
The scholarships were distributed in the course of a festive ceremony attended by Jewish Agency treasurer, Hagai Meirom, the president of the college, Shmaryahu Rosner, the deputy mayor of Carmiel, Rinah Greenberg, the chairman of the Alshagor Council, Ahmed Dabah, and the director of the “Carmiel – Misgav – Pittsburgh” partnership, Yael Reich.
