Last month, the Jewish Agency for Israel hosted tourists from all over the world at the Jewish Agency absorption center in Mevesseret Zion. This was one of the 4 volunteer days that the Jewish Agency is hosting during the year with the aim of attracting visitors of all ages and engaging them in interactive activities with new immigrants.

On this particular day, participants learned about the unique Ethiopian culture through a personal story, traditional cooking and the actual repair of a traditional Ethiopian dwelling located on the grounds of the absorption center.
At the end of the day, the volunteers learned about the special attire worn by Ethiopians. Saul Silver, chairman of the Jewish Agency Budget and Finance Committee dressed up as a Kes (religious leader) and was taught the Ethiopian handshake whereby both hands are extended.
The next volunteer day will be held during the Sukkot vacation on October 6th, 2009. Please plan on joining us for this exciting opportunity.
