The Jewish Agency thanked the over 500 volunteers of "At Home Together" for their instrumental help on behalf of new immigrants to Israel at a recognition night on December 2, 2009, at Kibbutz Givat Brenner.
In addition to the volunteers, their families, and their "adopted" immigrants, attendees included Chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive Natan Sharansky, Minister of Immigrant Absorption Sofa Landver and Eli Cohen, director-general of the Department of Immigration and Absorption at the Jewish Agency.
"Having a friend or close advisor to help them as they adjust to Israeli society is indispensible," said Sharansky, calling the work done by the volunteers a "badge of honor" for Israeli society.
At Home Together's volunteers help immigrants from around the world in all aspects of their absorption in Israel: Employment, housing, education and social integration. By being “adopted” by a veteran immigrant who speaks their language and by being hosted in their homes, the new immigrant is able to gain their bearings and build a network of support in Israel.
