The Young Leadership of the Jewish community of Detroit visited the Jewish Agency Beit Alfa Absorption Center on August 26.
The delegation, which numbered 25 young leaders, was met by the center’s director, Vered Ahihon, and her staff.
Vered told the delegation about the center’s absorption of new immigrants from Ethiopia and about the various programs that help the immigrants, old and young alike, to adjust to their new society.
After their introduction, members of the delegation were invited to participate in a traditional buna ceremony, which included the sampling of Ethiopian coffee and a unique pastry, dabu.
After the ceremony, the delegation toured the center, the nursery school located in its bomb shelter, and its computer room.
They met with children living in the center and enjoyed spending time with them.
Detroit’s young leaders experienced something special at the absorption center and vowed to stay in touch with the State of Israel and the Jewish Agency.
