Kibbutz Ulpan - Work the Land, Rock the Language
Kibbutz Ulpan Brochure

If you are between the ages of 18-28, combine a traditional Israeli experience with the Hebrew language skills to move into your future.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Kibbutz Ulpan has long been considered one of the most successful programs for young adults who want to learn Hebrew and experience kibbutz life. It offers the opportunity to experience, First-hand, a lifestyle unique to Israel while meeting other young Jews from around the world.

On the five-month Kibbutz Ulpan program, you will:

  • Study with your peers in intensive Hebrew-language courses for 24
    hours each week.
  • Perform volunteer work on your host kibbutz, also for 24 hours
weekly. The type of work depends on the needs of the kibbutz; your
    Shaliach can provide details.
  • Have access to a rich variety of cultural activities organized by the
kibbutz and by The Jewish Agency.

Alumni of Kibbutz Ulpan typically enter university, join the IDF, or embark on careers in Israel.
Kibbutz Ulpan starts year-round, depending on the start dates of ulpan courses at different kibbutzim.

ADMISSION AND COSTS
Admission to Kibbutz Ulpan is subject to an interview with a Shaliach (Emissary) or Kibbutz Ulpan program coordinator. You must receive written permission from a doctor to participate in this labor-intensive program. Participants must be physically and mentally equipped for kibbutz life and come with a willingness to work hard. This program is open to singles and couples without children.

The cost for new immigrants is NIS 2,000 (with a 500 NIS refundable security deposit) and includes full room and board, and supplementary cultural activities. Those participating as tourists should consult with their Masa coordinator or the Kibbutz Ulpan tourist website (kibbutzulpan.org).

ABOUT THE KIBBUTZIM
Kibbutz Ulpan is hosted by 11 kibbutzim around Israel, which vary in size, climate, industry, and character:
