Our Educational mission is to deepen the central and multi-faceted significance of Israel in connecting the next generation of young Jews to their Judaism, their people and  their homeland.

We hosted many successful and exiting projects in 2010 including the High Education Expo, Zionist Caravan and the well acclaimed annual Israel Encounter tour.

We have amazing projects planned for 2011:

January: Young Judaea visit South Africa

Whilst on a gap year in Israel, a group of American students will visit South Africa to meet young Jewish adults. The Israel Centre will organise this meeting as well as home hospitality for the weekend that they will be visiting.

March:   MASA workshops and the Israel Expo with a focus on High Education.

MASA is an umbrella organization for over 150 different programs in Israel that vary in duration from a few weeks to a year for young adults.

We help people to find programs suitable for them throughout year. We are aiming to bring Masa representatives as well as a few programs’ organizers to visit schools and talk about the programs and the application process.

Higher Education representatives from top Universities, colleges etc. in Israel are coming to SA. They will take part in the career evenings being co-ordinated by the various Jewish day schools in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Following the career evenings, the representatives will have private meetings with potential students and their parents.

June/July:  Israel Quiz

The first round of the Quiz will take place in all Jewish day schools. The winners of the first round will participate into the finals. Great prizes to be won, watch this space!

December: Israel Encounter tour

THE TOUR to Israel for grade 11!

The goal of the tour is to engage young South Africans to Israel by travelling around and experiencing Israel in different ways. One of the main goals is to show them different gap year options in Israel and high education options. In the last 2 years the tour was a big success and we hope to have as many youngsters as possible. Bookings open in September.

Other activities include:

• We are thinking about the adults’ tour to Israel (kind of an Israel Encounter for adults)
• Israel advocacy workshops at schools (tentatively in March).
