Jewish Agency Emissaries, or Shlichim

What is a “Shaliach” anyway?

We’re glad you asked.

Shaliach means “messenger” or “emissary” in Hebrew; the plural of the word is Shlichim. A Jewish

Agency Shaliach can help your community make Jewish heritage relevant by bringing Israel local.

The Jewish Agency handpicks its team of Shlichim, who then undergo extensive training before being matched with the right community. We try to ensure a perfect fit between your community’s needs and the expert emissary for Israel inspiration.

There are several types of shlichim operating at every level of your community – from educational shlichim to summer camp shlichim, youth movement shlichim to community shlichim, teacher shlichim to young volunteer shlichim and more.

To learn more about these and other shlichim awaiting involvement with your community, Federation, JCC or school click here (North American contact information only).
