Yisroel Schulman is President & Attorney-in-Charge of the New York Legal Assistance Group (www.nylag.org), a public interest law firm which in 2006 provided free civil legal services to over 30,000 individuals. Mr. Schulman has been lead counsel on over one dozen federal and state court class actions. Prior to his association with NYLAG, Mr. Schulman was a faculty member at the Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School of Yeshiva University. Mr. Schulman lectures regularly to various groups on legal issues affecting them and founded the Institute of American and Talmudic Law (www.iatlaw.com).
Mr. Schulman sits on the Board of Directors of charitable agencies including amongst others the Jewish Federation of Rockland, Hillel of Rockland and Jewish Opportunities Institute. Mr. Schulman has established many projects benefiting tens of thousands of individuals including the Holocaust Compensation Assistance Project, Immigrant Protection Unit, Elder Abuse Project, Domestic Violence Initiative and Legal Health. Mr. Schulman is the immediate past chair of the board of his local Board of Jewish Education and current Synagogue President and chair of the network of Chabad Lubavitch schools in Rockland County, New York.
Mr. Schulman has been honored by many organizations in the US and Israel, including New York State’s highest honor given to attorneys, the Attorney General’s Public Service Award, given to him by then Attorney General Elliot Spitzer. He is a Committee Member since June 2004.
