Josh Schwarcz has served as the Secretary General of the Jewish Agency since September 2001. As Secretary General, he serves as Secretary of the Jewish Agency Executive and Board and is responsible for the relationship with the Agency’s lay leadership in Israel and the Diaspora. Previously, he served as Advisor to the Chairman of the Jewish Agency and held other positions within various frameworks of the Jewish Agency.
His current public activities include membership in the Board of Directors of the Israel Museum, and on the Board and Executive of the Ethiopian National Project. Mr. Schwarcz is a reserve officer in the I.D.F.
Mr. Schwarcz was born in Canada and made Aliyah at the age of 20. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from McMaster University in Canada and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University in New York. He also holds a Certificate in Middle East Studies from Columbia.
