Jewish Agency upgrades security worldwide ahead of Yom Kippur

October 7, 2008

By HAVIV RETTIG

Security has been upgraded in Jewish Agency institutions worldwide ahead of Yom Kippur, a day on which a record number of Jews congregate in synagogues and community centers around the world for prayer.

An agency statement did not offer details on the new precautions, but noted that the move comes due to worries about growing anti-Semitic violence in some areas and threats by Islamist terror groups to avenge February's assassination of Hizbullah operations chief Imad Mughniyeh.
