Jewish Agency Treasurer Chaim Chesler Appointed to Management Committee of Polish Jewish Community Property Foundation
The Treasurer of the Jewish Agency for Israel Chaim Chesler has been appointed to the 6-man Management Committee of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage as a representative of the World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO).
Last year, the WJRO and the Polish Jewish community, under the guidance of the Government of Poland, decided to establish the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage. The WJRO estimates that prior to the Holocaust, the Jewish community of Poland owned more than 6,000 buildings. The purpose of the management committee is to oversee the restitution of this Jewish communal property.
The Management Committee will hold its first meeting in Warsaw on Wednesday December 6, following preliminary meetings beginning Monday December 4. Bobby Brown, Senior Advisor to WJRO Co-chairman and Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor, will be accompanying Mr. Chesler at these meetings.
Chaim Chesler has a personal connection with Polish Jewry. During the Holocaust, all of Chaim Chesler’s family perished in the Treblinka death camp in Poland except for his parents who had immigrated to Palestine prior to the outbreak of WWII.
