The Jewish Agency and the Law of Return

November 1, 2007 / 20 Cheshvan 5768

The Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency is a platform for the free expression of opinions on a variety of issues concerning the Jewish people and their relationship with the State of Israel. In this framework, the Minister of Interior, Meir Sheetrit, was invited to address the closing meeting of the Board of Governors.

The Jewish Agency stresses that the comments made by Mr. Sheetrit regarding the Law of Return were his own opinion. The Jewish Agency's stand on this matter is clear and known - the Jewish Agency is of the opinion that the State of Israel must continue to be open to all Jews, regardless, without any process of selection. As such, we continue to support the Law of Return as is, and which reflects the spirit of the State of Israel since its inception.
