Yom Ha’atzmaut in Denmark

April 26, 2004
Once again Yom Ha’atzmaut was celebrated in
Copenhagen in cooperation with the Israeli Embassy, the Jewish Community, a lot of Jewish organizations and friendship organizations, and headed and welcomed by the Danish Zionist Federation.

The celebration started at the synagogue, beautifully decorated by our youth organizations and schlichim, and afterwards continued at the Jewish Community Centre, also beautifully decorated. 350 people (among them 100 children) attended, and many more would have liked to do so, but were turned away at the door due to lack of space. At the entrance people were welcomed with fruit, wine and soft drinks.

Hans Hauge, senior lecturer at the University of Aarhus and a well known Danish debater in the media, made a brilliant and very humorous and positive speech, most different from other journalists, concerning Israel and the Middle-east. A likewise optimistic greeting came from Chargé d’Affaires to Israel, Ephraim Ben-Matityahu. There was singing and dancing performed by Jewish children's groups of all ages.

The evening was characterized by a lot of good food, Israeli music, sales of products from Israel, lotteries and above all a wonderful atmosphere.
