Communities large and small in Italy enjoyed Israeli culture brought to them by a Zionist Caravan
An exhibition of Israeli pictures, a film about Herzl and Zionism, a lecture on the delicate tapestry of democracy in Israel and Israeli entertainment were all integral parts of making the Zionist Caravan to Italy the resounding success it was. Be it in Rome, Genoa, Florence, Bologna, Livorno, Milan, or Torino the singer Ilan Tellerman had his audience clapping and singing along. An exciting moment for our staff from the Department, who accompanied the Caravan, was in Genoa where the audience spontaneously rose to their feet for some Israeli dancing.
The Zionist Caravan organized by the Zionist Federation of Italy together with the Department for Zionist Activities and with the cooperation of the Aliyah Department of the Jewish Agency, was warmly received in every community it visited. The goal of the caravan is to reach smaller isolated communities and schools, which do not usually have the opportunity to “experience Israel”. Each community had one evening of activity but a lifetime of fun memories.
