Desert Queen Opening Ceremony at Jewish Agency Compound in Jerusalem
Sixty women - one for each year of Israel's Independence - embarked on the "Desert Queen" Jeep Expedition on Wednesday, 17 September. The women represent Israeli and overseas communities involved in the Jewish Agency Partnership 2000 program. The expedition is a joint project of the Jewish Agency and "Geographical Tours".
"Desert Queen" combines a competitive outdoor adventure & 4WD driving expedition with personal development and fulfillment. "Desert Queen" has been a leader in women's empowerment & social responsibility - having uniquely touched the lives of literally thousands of women in Israel. Participants are put to the test as individuals - and no less important - as a team. The expedition is taking place in Israel for the first time, in honor of Israel's 60th Celebration of Independence.
Jewish Agency Chairman Zeev Bielski and Masa Director General Ayelet Shilo-Tamir addressed the participants during the opening ceremony.
The six-day expedition is taking place in the south of Israel, in locations such as Nahal Mamshit, Yeruham, Mitzpe Ramon, and Maale Akrabim.
The sixty women were divided into 15 teams, 4 women per jeep. One of the teams is composed of students from "Masa", a joint program of the Jewish Agency and Government of Israel.
