Afula-Gilboa

General Information

The Afula - Gilboa region lies east of the Jezreel Valley, where the center of the country meets the Galilee. The national road network shows that the area constitutes one of the main gateways to the Central and Eastern Galilee.

The region can be termed "a near peripheral region". On the one hand, it is too far from the heartland of the country for its development to be directly interwoven with that of the metropolitan cities of the Coastal Plain but on the other, it is in the first circle of influence, and not the extreme periphery.

The area is characterized by a variety of settlement forms: urban Afula, kibbutzim (8), cooperative moshav (1), moshavim (14), community village (1) and Arab towns (5).
