Teachers from schools in Southern New England and Afula-Gilboa are discussing internet project ideas via an e-mail discussion group -
agsnecyip@shamash.org
(acronym for Afula-Gilboa-SNEC \Youth Internet Project), set up especially for the purpose. Co-chaired for SNEC by Emily Lessner of Hartford and Alan Stein of Waterbury, and directed in Afula and Gilboa by Ronit Avrech, the plan is to match up SNEC schools with counterparts in Afula and Gilboa, with students in each matched pair of schools working together, using Internet as a means of communication, on projects of joint interest.
Teachers at the Alperin-Schechter Day School in Providence, Rhode Island, are developing an inerternet curriculum under the guidance of Ezra Stieglitz, professor of education at Rhode Island College. A detailed program has been drafted, focusing on Saving the Bays: A Comparison of Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island and the Haifa Bay in Israel. "The ideas are not etched in stone," Stieglitz says. "We are very open to suggestions for revising and modifying the content and design of this proposal." The curriculum combines scientific and Jewish sources, and offers a series of suggested "hands-on" activities emphasizing environmental awareness.
