Living Bridge Update

1. On February 28, a group of sixteen 15 and 16 year olds from Afula-Gilboa traveled with 2 adult counselors to SNEC communities on their mifgashim delegation mission. They are arriving back in Israel on March 12.

They visited in several of our SNEC communities: West Hartford, New Haven, New London, Greenwich and spent their last day of fun in NYC. The trip was a great success I have been told by Andy Hechtman, SNEC coordinator for this Young Leadership project. The arrived back in Israel on March 12.

2. Bob Kessler, Exective Director and Ed Goldstein, Presisdent of the Westport, Connecticut Federation visited in Afula-Gilboa during the last week in February, 2002. They made site visits to projects funded by the Rogov Foundation. As usual their visit was a great success, the projects shown were doing well and we all enjoyed the supportive smiles and encouraging energy from our SNEC partners.

3. Rob Zwang, Executive Director and Linda Herrmann, Director of Financial Resource Developmnet of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut visited in Afula-Gilboa March 11th and 12th . Rob is the SNEC patron of the Seeds of Peace Project and he and Linda are here to express their solidarity with us during these difficult times.

4. The Dotan Family from Moshav Moledet, will be traveling to Westport, Connecticut on Thursday, March 13, 2002, to spend Peseach with their son Uri who is serving as a young emissary from Gilboa there. They will celebrate the Sedar in Westport with the community and Uri’s host family.

5. Teachers from Westport who have been participating with teachers from Afula/Gilboa in a teacher’s exchange program which began last July (2001) will be coming from April 1-9, 2002 to continue the program with the second stage of curriculum development workshops in Israel.

6. Professor Richard Freund, Director, Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies of the University of Hartford will be visiting in Israel with a group of University presidents on March 15th-17th. The ministry of tourism is running it and they will be visiting Qumran and Bethsaida, the two sites for which Prof. Freund directs archeological projects.
