Stamford Mission Donates a Torah Scroll to the New Ethiopian Synagogue in Afula Hatziera
by Donna Ron

Edith Samers, Executive Director of Stamford Jewish Federation, led a mission of 17 participants from Stamford on a visit to Israel. On November 6, 2001, they came to visit in Afula-Gilboa. The highlight of the mission's visit was the celebration of the donation of a Sefar Torah by the Stamford Federation to a new Ethiopian Synagogue in Afula Ha'Tzira. The Ethiopian Community was there to greet the missions participants and held a glorious and dignified community walk into the synagogue. Mayor Itzhak Mirone received the honor of fixing the mezzuza on the doorpost of the synagogue. It was a most joyful gathering.
