Young Emissaries Depart for Their Year of Volunteer Service in SNEC Communities
by Donna Ron; edited by Eshel Fram

On Sunday, August 24, 2003, the farewell party for the Young Emissaries who will serve in SNEC Communities during the school year 2003-2004, was held on Kibbutz Ein Harod Ichud. The whole team of people in Afula-Gilboa who are involved with this program gave their blessings and parting wisdom to this group of energetic and committed young people: Eshel Fram, Regional Manager; Menachem Yavor, First Deputy Mayor of Afula; Rina Hadad, Director of the Youth Department in the Afula Municipality, Menashe Suissa, Director, Orot B'Gilboa; and Uzi Inbar, Young Emissary Project Director; The Young Emissaries had completed months of intensive workshops organized by Uzi in preparation for their year of service. They departed Israel on August 26, and their first mission in SNEC was a four day orientation at Camp Shalom in Hartford, CT. The orientation was a rich program designed to give the young emissaries an introduction to American Jewish Life in general and in particular Jewish Communal Life in the SNEC communities in which they will be volunteering. Word has it that the program was very successful and that the young emissaries are now in their respective communities getting adjusted and taking their first steps in their new roles as young Israeli P2K emissaries. We all send appreciation and thanks to all the many people involved in the planning of this dauntingly complex program as well as wishes for a year of success, health and safety.
