The Greenwich-Afula connection

Tali Dotan and Shai Joscowicz are sitting quietly in Suzanne Katz's living-room, waiting with 40 other women for author Esther Perel to begin her presentation.

The two are Israeli Young Emissaries, serving in the community for a year as part of the Southern New England Consortium's Partnership 2000 venture with Afula in northern Israel.

Since late August, they've been living and working in Greenwich, the newest SNEC host community.

When attendee Judith Kallman is told of the two young women, she springs from her chair and makes her way to the end of the row, calling to them in excited Hebrew: "I didn't know there were Israelis among us!" and demanding that the two come to dinner at her home.
