* Sukkot in Afula was marked by the opening of the city's new park. "Park Afula", the city's newest entertainment site for residents of all ages includes a lake, a playground for toddlers and children with special needs, a sports complex and picnic area. Plans call for the future construction of an amphitheatre and extreme sports complex. Residents from Afula and the surrounding region came in mass numbers to the park's ribbon cutting ceremony for a variety of activities and surprises.
* The Gilboa Valley Bicycle Trek was also held during the Sukkot holiday. According to Regional Council Mayor Danny Attar, the event was a tremendous success and drew riders from throughout the country along three separate routes, for families, bicycle enthusiasts and professional riders. Each route was developed according to a particular level of difficulty and a variety of tasks for participants to enjoy.
* Following a 20-year interruption, horseracing returned to Afula with the re-opening of the "Susiada" Racing Facility. The City of Afula, in cooperation with the Arabian Horse Owners Association and the Israel Horseracing Association, held a gala happening to mark the re-opening of the Afula institution. For many years, the "Susiada" in Afula was an important meeting point between the residents of the city and the farmers from the surrounding communities of the region. This year a variety of racing events, rodeo performances and fair booths were set up at the facility for visitors of all ages.
