The Kama Community in Arad!
4.8.2009

The Kama Community is a community living in Beersheba in a manner similar to that of an urban kibbutz. Today the community is choosing whether to continue to live in Beersheba or to move to Arad. They came to Arad for a tour to get to know the city.

Last Friday another group came for a tour of Arad, this time the Kama Community group.

The Kama Community is a community living in Beersheba in a manner similar to that of an urban kibbutz.

The community consists of 35 members, most of whom are students studying the humanities and social subjects, and who are engaged in social activities for the good of the city in which they live.

The members of the community are currently at a crossroads at which they have to choose a place for the community to live: will they continue living in Beersheba, or will they move to Arad?

Last Friday they came to us. The Young Adults Center, in cooperation with the Jewish Agency, received them as always with great joy and open arms. The goal was clear: to familiarize our new friends with our special city. And so it was. The community members and the Young Adults Center staff spent an entire day together, packed with content and information about the city.

So what did we do exactly? After a light breakfast of coffee and cake at the Young Adults Center we visited Alon and Avital Aharoni's Desert Vision Museum, and toured the city, including housing options and information about the city's community services.

At the end of the tour the community members met with Racheli Avramson, director of the Education Dept, for an open discussion on education in the city, and with Amos Redlich, EDU director, who told the group about entrepreneurial opportunities in the city.

Following these meetings and a light lunch, an open forum was held for the community members and young Arad residents regarding settlement, the city and the significance of choosing to live there.

At the end of a lovely day the young people remained at the Young Adults Center and talked about the significance of settlement.

The community members will reach a decision on their choice of city of residence shortly.
