Beit Shean and Cleveland Campers Meet via Video Conference
By Julie Jaslow Auerbach, Education and Missions Coordinator, International Operations, Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland
During a week of activity focused on Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland overseas projects, 5th and 6th grade children in the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland's Anisfield Day Camp met by videoconference with children of the same age in the city of Beit Shean's kaytenaot (summer day camps).
They introduced themselves to each other by name and by interests and spoke about what they liked best to do at camp. Some campers on both sides spoke in Hebrew, some in English, and they sang favorite camp songs for each other. The videoconference ended with the two groups and their staff singing "Od Yavo Shalom Aleynu" together across the telephone lines.
An added highlight to this connection were the photographs prepared by the Anisfield campers for the Beit Shean campers in advance of the videoconference portraying a typical day at the JCC's Halle Campgrounds in Burton, Ohio.
