The Volunteer leadership forum sponsored by Pk2000 had a successful new beginning for one of its projects Monday September 6th. Sarah Schiffman a memebr of the course organized a "Beit Shemesh walking club;. The club has three different routes around Beit Shemesh, a three kilometer easy walk, a 7 kilometer sport/fitness walk complete with markers along the way so one can time one's self, and a historical walk which encompasses many sites of interest in the city. The entire project was an idea and completely done voluntarily by members of the forum. The walking club has gotten the city to agree to paint markers for the path all along the routes and is organizing days and times for groups of elderly, mothers and kids, and sport walkers to walk together. There will even be a group walking to Jerusalem in the "zaadah" in hol hamoed succot- hopefully with some Adulam,Washinton, and South Africa participants. The opening ceremony was well attend with children, adults, pets, Mayor Dani Vaknin, and representatives of various groups. The group walked part of the path and along the way were information booths about health, walking, protecting our environment, animal rights, and nature hiking groups. The opening was a festive success.
