Last Sunday (November 21st) a group of youth from South Africa visited Yeshivat Nachshon at Moshav Naham. The youths came to Israel for around 3 months during which time they will tour the country and learn Hebrew. The youths visited Yeshivat Nachshon to meet their 11th grade counterparts at the yeshivah, as part of a trip to the Beit Shemesh region under the auspices of the Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 Beit Shemesh Mateh Yehuda Washington South Africa.

When the members of the delegation arrived, they and the 11th grade students convened in the yeshivah's beit midrash study area. The visit started with a reception, given by Partnership 2000 director Mr. Gideon Vennor, followed by an introductory talk during which the yeshivah's pedagogic counselor Dr. Meir Eckstein presented Yeshivat Nachshon to the youths.

The delegation's leader also presented the program as part of which the youths came to the yeshivah. After the opening talk, Amos Rahamim, from the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council, presented an overview to the delegation members and yeshivah students during which he related the history of Moshav Naham (formerly the Hartuv farming community) and of the Mateh Yehuda region.

After the overview the boys returned to the beit midrash where they took part in a number of activities, run by Amit Zehavi and Naveh Yogev of Partnership 2000, during which the youths got to know each other and learned about the importance of the bond of the Jewish people all over the world. There was also an activity that focused on the media and the importance of obtaining a full picture of a situation before forming an opinion.

The encounter was beneficial and significant, both for the delegation members and the youths from the yeshivah, and we look forward to more visits by other delegations in the future.
