Joint Steering Committee and Pittsburgh Social Worker Delegation Visit the Region

On Thursday November 1, 2007, the Joint Steering Committee of the Pittsburgh, Karmiel and Misgav Partnership of the Jewish Agency sponsored Partnership 2000 program concluded its Fall Session after three days of fruitful discussions concerning the organization's future activities throughout 2008-2009.
 
The Pittsburgh Delegation included Sandy and Louis Kushner, Skip Grinberg, Linda Simon, Marlene Silverman and UJF staff members.

Scott Mann, the Misgav Partnership chairman, Hanna Kovel and Eti Levy, the city managers of the respective municipalities, Yael Raich, JAFI Partnership Director and other members of the Israeli Steering Committee represented the Israeli communities.

The committee in its approval of the $664,000 2008-2009 project budget decided to promote projects in the area of Youth Leadership, Branding the Region as a Tourism Region, Support for Businesses, Social-Action Projects and project's related to Israel's 60th Year of Independence.

The members of the delegation visited the Galilee Park in Karmiel and viewed the lovely statues that were sculptured on location, at a unique series of "Sculpting in the Quarry" events.

Accompanied by Batya Rechavi, Director of Education for the Misgav Regional Council they also visited a school at the Bedouin village of Kamana.

On Wednesday, the guests attended the inauguration of the Karmiel Family Therapy Center sponsored the city's Social Services Administration. The center's renovation was made possible thanks to a generous contribution made by United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.

During their visit, the members of the delegation also met with outgoing Misgav mayor Erez Kriesler who will be concluding his term of office following the November 27 local elections.

That same week a delegation of eight Pittsburgh Jewish Community Social Workers, visited the region and their colleagues in Karmiel and Misgav. They visited numerous project and services operated by the Welfare Services Departments of the respective municipalities, as well as Kishorit, a village for adults with special needs and the psychiatric department of the Ziv Medical Center in Tzafat, etc. Social workers from both sides of the ocean plan to conduct an international conference in 2009 intended for therapy professionals from Israel and abroad.
