Mayor of Migdal HaEmek and Member of Knesset Shaul Amor, visited Detroit accompanied by his wife Susan and their interpreter, David Bitan. The week long visit, July 14 - 20, included visits to agencies of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, meetings with the Michigan Partnership 2000 Steering Committee, professionals who have been involved in Partnership 2000 exchanges and lay leadership.

Highlights of the week's itinerary include a day in Ann Arbor to visit the University of Michigan's Media Union and a day in Detroit including a meeting with Mayor Dennis Archer, a visit to the Detroit Institute of Art and a tour of the city.

The purpose of the visit was to acquaint Mayor Amor with the Detroit Jewish community and to provide him with a deeper understanding of the purpose of Partnership 2000. Mayors Menachem Ariav and Mula Cohen from the Region visited in 1996 but Mayor Amor was unable to attend due to illness.
