Out of hundreds of students requesting to join Central Galilee Partnership 2000 summer camp, about 150 fifth graders were selected. These campers attend different schools in the region and are all outstanding achievers in English; they were chosen based on their advanced skills in the language.
The high demand for the two-week summer camp stems from its uniqueness. The camp is conducted in the English language and, aside from the daily wealth of fun activities, trips, and attractions, the students also get to enjoy educational activities that enrich their worlds-in English. Thus their achievements are advanced even further. Furthermore, a large portion of the camp's activities (hip-hop lessons, karaoke and others) are delivered by American students who arrive within the framework of student exchange missions.
"This year we tried to shake off the sensation of being at school and 'change the scenery'. Considering the fact that this year, children are getting the added value of learning directly from Americans, I believe they'll get a genuine feeling of being in an English language camp, in the full sense of the word," says Batia Shimshi, Partnership 2000 education program coordinator.
