Richmond Pupil Shares Maccabi Games Experience With Emek Hefer Peers
15.9.2010

by Robin B. Zeiger

Erin Hecht 15, Richmond Maccabi participant, is a typical 10th grade student at Godwin High School.  Like most teens, she enjoys her social life. She is a serious student and wants to study to become a psychotherapist. Erin stands out in her Jewish commitment. She is in BBYO.  She has participated in a BBYO summer experience, and she is very committed to Israel.

Erin explains that she participated in Macabee as a bowler "just for fun."  In the end, she had a very good time.   Erin's family housed three Israelis, two from Emek Hefer. Erin enjoyed her time with her newfound Israeli friends. She believes that Richmond/Emek Hefer teen connections are very important.  It is a great way to meet new people and to make new friends.

In spite of the time difference, Erin works hard to keep in touch via Facebook and instant messaging.  Most of all, she can't wait until next summer when she can stay in Emek Hefer with her friends.

Richmond hosted the JCC Maccabi Games this year. Over 800 youth Jewish youth participated, including 13 from Emek Hefer, Richmond's Jewish Agency Partnership 2000 Region in Israel. In order to bring a snapshot of our Partnership, we are presenting some reflections from teens and parents on both sides of the ocean.
