The New North London is a thriving Masorti community in Finchley, where many Jewish people live. It was founded by the son of Rabbi Dr Louis Jacobs, the founder of the movement in England. The majority of the community are professional people with young, or teenage children, and there is an active Noam youth movement.
The synagogue's practice is broadly traditional. In the main service men and women sit separately, but women are active on the synagogue council, are included in a minyan and give sermons. An egalitarian minyan is held in parralel to the main service on some Shabbatot, as is a women's minyan and Assif, an egalitarian service for 20-30 year olds.
The synagogoue has an active study and social programme and a very active Israel group.
Our young rabbi, Jonathan Wittenberg, is much loved and respected, both in the community and beyond. He is a wise and loving friend and teacher.
The synagogue shares its site with the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain.
The building is becoming too small for our many members and activities and we are hoping to rebuild very soon on the same site.
