Five Limmud Galil activists who attended Limmud Fest in the UK in 2006 and 2007 immediately became enthused about adapting this event to the Galilee. In November 2007 the first TiyulLimmud took place as a day event and on May 29-30, 2008 a two-day outdoor event was held at Mitzpe Abirim , incorporating study with hiking and overnight camping in this beautiful region. As with all Limmud Galil events, this was completely organised by volunteers. Herzl Habusha summarizes the experience:
After two days of enjoyment and fun I wish to say "Thank you"…
Between the seasons of winter and of summer that stands at our door,Between Pessach and Shavuot,Between "planting with tears" and harvesting the first fruits,We set out on TiyulLimmud.
When nature is at its fullest strength and all around is growing and blooming,
Our feet followed the paths of the Galilee, with its vast breathtaking views.
Beneath the "Big Allon" tree we studied about nature from our "Mekorot" At the Ein Ziv Stream, surrounded by the joyous sound of children splashing in the water, we studied Hevruta.
We enjoyed a musical performance in the evening, singing, laughing and telling stories around an open fire far into the night.
We united with nature, with ourselves and with the friends who shared in this special experience.
We learned to observe nature, but also to look into ourselves and our environment.
Thank you for the heart and spirit put into the efforts that made TiyulLimmud a success: To Eyal for offering his wonderful facilities, to Ofer for all the organization and for skillful guiding on the hikes, to David for the Hevruta and enthusiasm, to Elana for her morning prayer service, to Ahuva, Heni, Irit and Mary. Without these Limmud Galil volunteers the event could not have taken place. In the true spirit of Limmud, Ido Beran and Oren Habusha - as second generation Limmudniks - volunteered their services as guards and medics on the hikes.
