On December 14th the Partnership 2000 Youth Council members met their new friends from Can'an Absorption Centre in Zafet for the second time. The Youth Council members, veterans of Youth Delegations to Britain, had taken upon themselves to participate in the "elder brother" project, and adopted a group of Ethiopian children aged 6-10 living at the Can'an Absorption Centre in Zafet.
Together they went to the ancient olive press at Kazrin, where they celebrated the beginning of Hanukah.
Our enormous excitement started while driving to the Absorption Centre. We hoped the children remembered us and are excited for our coming, like we were. When the Absorption Centre children boarded the bus there was a great joy. Each child looked for his mentor and set beside him. After a round of hugs and kisses, everybody started singing. We were glad to see how much the kids bonded and missed their "elder brothers".
In spite of the extreme cold in Kazrin, we didn't skip the warming up games familiar to all.
Together we toured Kazrin antiquities, met characters from the past and listened to their stories. Then we made together clay Hanukah lamps. At the last station of the tour we learned how to produce olive oil and experimented in squeezing out the olives. At the conclusion, Ehudi Eretz Hazvi (our social counselor) handed out sweet hot doughnuts. The entire trip back we all sang Hanukah songs and the atmosphere was great.Towards the end of our journey we became tired and fell asleep next to each other.
