"Just like the name suggests, these lovely kids bring Magic to our community. Living bridges are made across generations with all the community coming together for both Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzma'ut." Thus Orli Kendler-Rhodes from Wimbledon summarized the exciting week their community experienced during Magic Moments 2012.
On April 22 the tenth Magic Moments delegation with 50 youth and group leaders from the Partnership Northern Galil region traveled to eight communities in Great Britain. The groups, who were hosted by families in each community, enjoyed a unique experience of life in the Jewish community in Britain. During their week of volunteering in various Jewish institutions, and speaking for Israel advocacy at gatherings in Jewish and mixed schools they were exposed to the Zionism, warmth and hospitality of the Jewish communities.
The high point of the visit was the Yom HaZikaron ceremonies held in each host community: "The service has moved everyone attending and our thoughts are with every family in Israel. You bring us closer to Israel. Thank you for including us and uniting us with all other communities here and abroad." (Orli Kendler-Rhodes, Wimbledon).
At the farewell gathering of the delegation Karen Pomerance spoke these words: "As Chair of the Magic Moments Executive Committee, I would like to say what an amazing 10th anniversary week we have just had. The weather, although raining every day, didn't manage to dull the spirit of the "hanichim" or the wonderful "madrichim". They arrived in the UK with a mission to bring the spirit of the Northern Galil to our UK Communities and succeeded in a way that cannot be described in words.
As Doug Krikler, Chief Executive of UJIA, stated at the welcome event: 'We in the UK, as host families, opened our hearts and homes to the Magic Moments delegation. However, I feel we get so much more in return with a real people to people living connection that is a precious jewel in many of our lives. Each Yom Hazikaron ceremony was delivered with a professionalism, maturity and sensitivity that will remain in many peoples' minds for a very long time.'
I am so proud to be part of this special project and treasure the outcome it produces for both the Israeli delegates and the UK families involved."
Adrienne Cinna, Living Bridge Coordinator with UJIA in the UK added: "Magic Moments is a flagship project of the UJIA, the Jewish Agency and Partnership Northern Galil - Great Britain. It is a project that has been building deep and ongoing connections for the past ten years between the Jewish community in the UK and the Northern Galil."
