The Music Center provides children and teenagers with a place to compose music, to practice playing music and to hold rehearsals. It also serves as a meeting place for young composers from all over the city who are members of local bands and are involved in producing events.
This year children from the center participated in eight annual concerts for string instruments, percussion instruments, piano and electric organ. In addition, they took part in the central ceremonies for the commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day and Memorial Day.
The Music Center considers it vitally important to foster the city's young talent, and to create a warm environment for teenage musicians. This will give them an equal opportunity that can help them progress in the future and make breakthroughs in their artistic fields.
From this outlook, and in light of the success of five students who elected to take their matriculation exam in five units of music study, the center initiated a program to open a musical education track at the general comprehensive high school, with the participation and direct involvement of the Music Center.
Music students in Ofakim also benefited this year from private lessons and help in their ensembles from students from the Academy of Music in Jerusalem, who reached this area thanks to stipends from the Perach Mentoring Project.
This year an evaluation study to assess this project was conducted by Partnership 2000; the conclusions reached by that study will be presented at the next steering committee meeting which will take place in November.
