The Time Bank started on its way in Ofakim in January, 2005, in collaboration with the Ofakim Community Center, the Ofakim Municipality, JDC and Partnership 2000. The aim of this community social program is to improve and strengthen the reciprocal relations between community residents who assist others and those who require assistance in various areas of life, in a one-on-one framework. It means that a a human-community net is created in which each member contributes time and personal skills and in return receives according to his needs from another member.
In the course of this past year, 100 people took part in this project, spending more than fifty hours per month in initiated community projects, which included: renovating and painting apartments for the needy, painting stairways in apartment buildings etc.
The project coordinator resigned last March, and the Community Center is currently starting the process of recruiting a new coordinator. We are looking into a possibility of combining this project with P2K's new Volunteers' House project in order to create an umbrella project for empowering the activity of all volunteers in Ofakim.
