Yesterday, September 10th, the first annual art exhibit, "Children Against Terror" opened in the cultural center of Or-Akiva.
A project of the Lapid Fund in memory of Vadim Norziets z"l, who was one of the two soldiers murdered in the Ramallah lynch in October 2000, the project was also sponsored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation through its' P2K JAFI connection, the Or-Akiva municipality, and the Lingua Language Center of Or-Akiva (also a P2K supported project).
Children from schools all over Israel, including the Shevach Mofet School in Tel-Aviv, from Miami, and from New York's Styvansent School, which is right opposite the site of the (former) WTC, sent in pictures depicting their view of terror, the prevention of terror, how terror affects our lives, and life without terror. Of note was a group of paintings painted by twins, a brother and a sister. The sister perished at the Dophinarium and her surviving brother has not been able to touch a paint brush since that day. Over twenty members of families of Dophinarium victims attended the opening.
After the opening a symposium on "How Terror Affects Our Lives" was held in the auditorium of the cultural center. Attending were high school students from Or-Akiva and Sevach Moffet, Yaacov Edri the mayor of Or-Akiva, members of the city council, representatives of the Jewish Agency, and the Norzietz family.
