Talmud Torah Mission to Alei Givah

Both teachers, Adam and Fred, thought that the visit was good and that it attained its "living bridge" goals. They felt that the professional connection between them and the teachers was excellent, they succeeded in getting to know the students well and that they were part and parcel of the school staff.

Goals for Improving Ties in 2008:

- They would like to present their visit to both their school administration and the Vancouver Jewish Federation.
- The school will select someone who will be an active living bridge coordinator and make sure things run properly.
- The school will recruit "living bridge trustees" from among the students, starting with a small group that will grow in size over time.
- The two schools will run a joint program through various technological aids (video conference and the like), and work together on the 60th anniversary celebrations for the State of Israel.
- The Alei Givah school will build a website through which both teachers and students can maintain ongoing contact with the Talmud Torah school.
- Fred and Adam presented the students of Alei Givah with a program for winter Olympics in Vancouver, and are now teaching the Talmud Torah pupils the same program.

Notes/Comments:

- The visit went well and according to the pre-arranged schedule. This allowed much more efficient planning.
- The personal acquaintances made with Yehudit and Tali's families (the Living Bridge Coordinator and school principal respectively) at dinner added an important personal element to the visit.
- The mission's timing over the Christmas vacation was very successful because it doesn't interfere with studies in Canada.
- Yehudit's personal care and concern for the teachers was a major element in creating the good feelings about the visit.
- The tour of the Golan Heights contributed tremendously to getting to know the Land of Israel and in understanding the situation on the ground.
- Adam thought it wise to lengthen the mission's stay so that both teachers and students can create deeper ties with the visitors.
- On the other hand, Fred felt that though very intensive, the length of time was sufficient because it left a desire for more.
- Both teachers were very pleased with the administrative aspects and arrangements (hotels, taxis, restaurants) for the entire visit.
