Ed Buxbaum Named Executive Director

The Canton Jewish Community Federation and Jewish Community Center Search Committee is pleased to announce the hiring of retired local businessman Edward S.

Buxbaum as its Executive Director.Mr. Buxbaum has served extensively as a lay leader within the Jewish community for many years, including terms as past president of the Canton Jewish Community Federation, the Canton Jewish Center and Temple Israel. In addition to his community responsibilities, Buxbaum was in private business for over 33 years.“I look forward to the opportunity of working with the Federation and Center Boards in taking pro-active steps regarding the future of our community. It is incumbent upon all of us to seize this opportunity and do something truly unique in Canton for the next generation.

The Federation and Center Boards and myself, are committed to capitalizing on our strengths and resources to ensure a dynamic and culturally enriched Jewish community that welcomes the participation of all our members,” said Buxbaum.During the transition process of Kadima, the Search Committee felt it was necessary to hire an executive familiar with the current congregational and community concerns, as well as one with leadership and business skills.

“Ed Buxbaum has been involved in the Kadima process from the outset,” said Federation President Greg Luntz. “During this time of transition within the Jewish community, the Federation sought a community leader who could devote time and effort not just to the day-to-day management of the facilities and programs, but also provide oversight and balance for the Kadima process and community at large.

Ed brings his community knowledge and business acumen to the table and we are delighted he has accepted this responsibility”.The hiring was approved unanimously by both the Federation and the Center Boards, with terms and conditions of employment specified in a two-year employment agreement signed by the Federation, the Canton Jewish Community Center and Mr. Buxbaum.

At the end of the term, the agreement will be reviewed and adjusted if necessary. The CEO/Executive Director position is a part-time position. Buxbaum succeeds Michael Wise, who accepted a position in Atlanta this past March.
