Yeruham youth night birds, members of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed Youth Movement, landed on the grass soccer field at the local sports center for a mini soccer tournament last Tuesday night. Some 150 youth attended the event, which also featured guitar-strumming youth, movies, jewelry crafting and lots of coffee.
The happening kicked off the "Night Birds" series in Yerucham, providing a framework for Yeruham youth to overcome some of the boredom which accompanies summer vacation - at least on Tuesdays between 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. The Jewish Agency Yeruham - Miami Partnership helps make these activities possible.
"It was really groovy," said one 10th grader who enjoyed the first evening event. "The soccer tournament was the highlight; then we sat down for some coffee and music and helped organize the place."
