What is the Lehigh Valley/Yoav Partnership?
11.11.2007

Partnership 2000, a program under the auspices of JFLV and the Jewish Agency, establishes and nurtures partnerships between a region or city in Israel and in the U.S., encouraging interaction between communities, professionals, families, and individuals. As of August 2007, there are 45 Partnerships in Israel with 550 Jewish communities around the globe. Twothirds of these are with cities and regions in the Negev and Galilee. The Jewish Agency describes P2K as "Partnership with a Purpose-how Israeli and Diaspora Jews work together to strengthen the Jewish people as a whole," to create bonds across the Jewish world and to personalize Zionism.

During the past five years, LV P2K, sponsored by the JFLV, has provided family and community subsidies for the Yoav Regional summer camp (which, in 2006, absorbed an addition 300 children from northern Israel, offering them a respite from the Lebanon War). P2K has helped provide screening services to identify children with developmental and learning disabilities, has brought scholars and performers from Yoav to the Lehigh Valley to participate in Project Yachad's Spring Adult Education program and in Mayfair and to interact with and educate students at the Jewish Day School, the JCC, and local universities and public high schools. It has coordinated a group of Voluntours from the Lehigh Valley to work in Yoav for a three-week period.

For the past five summers, P2K has made it possible for 4 Israeli teens, who participated in the Partnership-sponsored teen leadership initiative in Yoav, to come to the Lehigh Valley, live with host families, work with our youth in the JCC summer camp.

The Newly Affirmed Vision of the Lehigh Valley/Yoav Partnership:

The goal of Lehigh Valley-Yoav partnership is to serve as a Living Bridge between our communities, on a community, organizational, and individual level. Our partnership seeks to deepen connections between the Yoav and Lehigh Valley communities by generating interpersonal relationships and implementing joint projects. These projects should be based on identified needs of our communities and should aim to strengthen the Jewish/cultural connections between the communities and to benefit both communities.
