Limmud Arava

What does the Hebrew word "limmud" mean? The dictionary tells us that the definition is "studying, learning or acquiring knowledge". But for many Jews around the world today Limmud has come to mean the organization which was founded about 30 years ago in the United Kingdom in order to increase the scope of activities connected to Jewish identity in all aspects, including religious, secular and national issues.  more

Australian Ambassador to Israel Visits the Arava

The Central Arava was honored to host the Australian ambassador to Israel, Mr. James Larsen, for a two-day visit. The ambassador toured the region from north to south, visiting Partnership 2000's Partnership Hill, the regional Research and Development Station, the Faran Lookout Point, the young settlement of Tsukim, Moshav Tsofar's fields in Jordanian territory, and newly-planted acacia trees on Moshav Hazeva.   more

 

Involving the Community in Education - All Aboard!

About two years ago a group of young parents in the Arava began to formulate a process through which the community would take a leading role in shaping the educational system in the region. They felt that the time had come to actively participate in changing the face of local education (rather than simply criticizing and complaining!), and that by making the regional educational system a main priority in the Arava, they could put a better future within the grasp of their children, and could even help to leverage the entire region.  more

 

Bialik College And Key Workers Delegations

This year these two traditional delegations arrived in the Arava on the same day -Friday, December 26th - in time spend the Shabbat with their host families, and to then participate in the event celebrating the Partnership's bar mitzvah. The Key Workers delegation has been enjoying home hospitality in the Arava for several years now, and two of their members, Jeff and Susan from Melbourne, on their first visit ever to Israel, said that they were amazed by all they had seen so far, and by the hospitality of their adoptive family from Moshav Faran.   more
