While every parent and teacher understands that the children presently before them will eventually grow up and perhaps even turn into Torah scholars, some parents and teachers still lack the necessary foresight when dealing with children. They relate to children only in accord with their current spiritual state and consequently seek only to educate them to be "good children". Parents and teachers who thus limit their goals to the level of children are doing a great disservice. Instead, they must view the children as "outstanding souls" who are just now in their initial development stages, with their responsibility as parents and teachers being to help cultivate them such that they blossom to reach their full potential. The educator is a gardener in the Almighty's garden. When the educator senses that the pupils have negative traits, he must understand that this is the nature of the "seeds of souls" and "unripe angels"; the small fruits are bitter when they first appear, but they are juicy and sweet when they ripen.
