Chovat Hatalmidim: Message to Teachers and Parents (12)
Moreover, we tend to absolve ourselves and put the full blame on the younger generation for their leaving the path of tradition. But are we really that clean? When the Almighty praised the Patriarch Abraham, the focus was on how Abraham led his children and household residents to follow in the path of the Almighty (Breishit, 18:19). Every generation forms a link in the chain of our heritage, commencing with the Patriarch Abraham and continuing until the coming of the Moshiach. Each generation receives the heritage of faith and passes it on. Our existence, then, rests on our ability to lead our children in the path of the Almighty. Will this heritage, heaven forbid, cease with our generation - are we unable to pass the Torah lifestyle on to the next generation? And are they the ones to blame - do they not also possess saintly souls as descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
