Chovat Hatalmidim: Message to Teachers and Parents (44)
Rabbi Isaiah Horowitz, in his 16th century book, Shnei Luchot HaBrit, provides us with excellent guidance for educating today's youth, as he expounds upon the verse, "do not rebuke a depraved, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you" (Parables 9:8). When rebuking a person make sure not to humiliate him, and refrain from treating him as a depraved individual, for if you do so he will hate you and will ignore your message; rather, relate to him as a wise person, and he will listen to you.
