Youth Futures in Eilat

Thanks to our partnership with the Federation of Greater Toronto, 16 highly motivated Trustees are working with 162 elementary school children, and 72 middle school teens at-risk to improve their social skills and academic achievements. This includes 32 children who are new immigrants.  Of the children enrolled age 6-13, 71 are from single parent families and 52 are from families under the care of the local welfare department. The children in the program suffer from a variety of issues including, the poverty of their families, truancy, very difficult learning disabilities and problems, behavioral problems, vagrancy within the schools, violence, social problems, over sensitivity, one-parent families, police records, concentration difficulties, and medical problems.

Each Trustee works full time Monday- Thursday with  an average of 15-16 children every day and involves them in a variety of activities and programs in an individual and group setting, such as going to the movies, participating in nature enrichment activities, weekly computer activities run by Tapuah, and special activities rewarded to children whose achievements have improved.

The middle school teens also have an array of extra curricular activities. Some of these include Nature activities in cooperation with the local SPNI field school, tutoring by university students, integrating the youth into the "keepers of the Gulf" program which encourages them to be environmentally conscious, and more.

In Eilat, the Trustees work with this age group as well.  Each Trustee works with 20 youth.
