Youth Futures in Sderot

The Youth Futures program in Sderot Addresses the needs of 150 children age 6-13. The Partnership Director for this region is Ravit Ochayon- Michael and the Local Program Coordinator is Sarit Ziv.

To date there are 7 Trustees in Sderot 4 of them are Sderot natives and 3 are newer residents. The local residents are young people in their twenties, with a social- educational background, who see working with children at risk, particularly in Sderot with its ongoing rocket attacks, as an important mission, and a significant contribution to strengthening the community. The newer residents decided to settle in Sderot because of the communities' difficulties and complex security- social situation.

There are 150 children registered from grades 1-5 from 3 elementary schools. 80 of the children are new immigrants, 72 are from the Former Soviet Union, and 8 are from Ethiopia.

Most of the problems faced by the children involved in Youth Futures in Sderot seem to be a result of the difficult social situation and the high level of fear among the children.

Currently we are working in cooperation with the Education Department, the Community Center and the Welfare Department.
