Hadassah Neurim Celebrates Caucus Mountain Ethnic Pride

Hadassah Neurim celebrated the formal opening of the "Kavkazi Project", sponsored by the Jewish Federation of New York. The main focus of the project is to learn the tradition, history and folklore of the Caucus Mountain Jewry's roots, promote pride and self esteem of the students and families, and find a strong point that can be the start of strengthening their own identity, and a new Israeli identity as well.
 
Together with guests of honor Yoram Yair, Chairman of the Board of Neurim, The Mayor of Or Akiva Simcha Yosipov, the Chairman of the Kavkazi Federation in Israel, with Ilan Halperin, representative and head of the New York Jewish Federation office, parents and the students and staff of Hadassah Neurim. The event hosted the Akilov Family folklore ensemble of dance and music, a local student dance and folklore band, an exhibition of artifacts and traditional pictures and art. The event ended with a Kavkazi Lunch prepared by students, grandmothers and mothers of the Kavkazi community.

                                              


 
The young participants were very proud about the whole project, and arose the envy of the other students, thus creating an interest in roots and history, pride in the origins and a willingness to study and get a deeper knowledge of where they came from. The guests all greeted the staff and students, and the sponsors of the program from New York Jewish Federation.


 
Hopes are high and the mood is great, said Nachum Katz, the director of the village. Mandi Rabinovitch, the high school principal and the creator of the idea and the program was extremely happy and proud of his students, appreciating their enthusiasm and cooperation. "These students future is better looking once they will know and be proud of their own roots, appreciate the efforts of their family and community" said Mendi.
