24.12.2006

The teachers and staff at the Hadassah Neurim Youth Village, joined by the staff and Inspectors of the Rural education department spent a very warm and moving Hanuka Candles Lighting with the village's Ethiopian originated students and families at the Ramla Tbage Community Center in the town of Ramla tonight.

City officials, amongst them the Commander of the Ramla Police Station, Lieutenant Colonel Yoram, the JCC officials and others greeted the families and students warmly. Shay, the cultural coordinator told the crowd about the activities at the center, dealing with the traditions and history of the Ethiopian originated Jews. Many parents who live in the very close neighborhood came for the first time to this JCC.

The whole event, related to the fifth candle of Hanuka was a part of a community project called "Every Student (is) a School", created by Mendy Rbinovitch and a few other high school principals, headed and supported by the Rural department of Education officials. The program focuses on the learning and promoting the academical success of these students by many original and focused efforts and means.

The evening was very heart touching and warm, parents asked questions and showed interest and worry about the future of their sons and daughters, while these expressed optimism together with their teacheers and principals.
