Eli Amir Receives Honorary Doctorate From Weizmann Institute
Eli Amir receiving his Honorary Doctorate at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot
Eli Amir has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Weizmann Institute of Science. At the festive academic ceremony in November in Rehovot during which he received his Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa, he was cited for "his contributions to the modern Hebrew novel." Amir has written four novels, which document Israeli life. Before becoming Director-General of Youth Aliyah in 1984, he served as Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption. The Weizmann Institute also praised "his lifelong personal quest to facilitate the road to Israel for all Jews, while steadfastly preserving the country's ties with the Jewish communities of the world."
